About us

Our investment proposition

We manage our centralised investment proposition in-house through our investment committee. This allows us to carefully research and deliberate every decision, ensuring nothing is rushed.

Our investment approach at a glance

The Waterbridge investment philosophy is built on key principles for constructing portfolios. For example, diversification is essential, and UK gilts are generally less risky than equities. Tactically, we consider how different economies are at various stages of the economic cycle.

We use a clear five-stage process to turn our investment philosophy into practical portfolio strategies:

1
Strategic Asset Allocation (SAA):

This is the foundation of the portfolio and defines the split of the portfolio into groups of investment assets: Equity, Fixed Interest, Property, Other and Cash.

2
Risk rating:

This is the process of weighting the SAA of the portfolios so the diversification principles between the constituent investments in the portfolio combine to create a portfolio with risk characteristics that, on the whole, match the risk attitude of the investor.

3
Investment approach:

The portfolio is built by putting together different funds that have complementary strategies and expertise. The result is a diversified portfolio with individual managers using their expertise to identify opportunities for above-average performance.

4
Regional allocation:

This is the allocation of assets around the world and is a refinement of the SAA. Within the risk rating of the portfolio, investments are identified in different parts of the world.

5
Maintaining portfolios:

Once a portfolio is built, clients are matched with one that aligns with their risk profile. We maintain and adjust portfolios without offering discretionary advice by using a formulaic rebalancing approach, returning the portfolio to its original target weightings.

Our in-house investment committee

Our investment committee meets every quarter to provide us with a structure in which we can evidence the processes followed in making recommendations and ensuring they remain suitable.

The investment committee’s function is key to ensuring that client investment outcomes can be met and that all members have the appropriate knowledge, experience, and skills to carry out the role. By handling this process internally, we maintain a rigorous and robust approach that provides a level of control and consistency that sets us apart.
